Life truly is a team sport. Collaboration and connection play an important role in achieving common goals. You can accomplish a lot by yourself but when you work with others you can accomplish so much more! In my professional life, my team is composed of individuals with distinct responsibilities, yet we work hand in hand to reach our objectives. The support system surrounding me in my personal life includes my wife, mentors, coaches, family, and friends. Each member contributes uniquely to my growth and success.
The Value of Teamwork
Teamwork is important in every social situation, whether at home, in a group of friends, at school, at work, and in organizations. When you have many perspectives at the table it provides different ways to solve problems and accomplish goals. You can do a lot on your own, sure, and sometimes you can get things done faster by yourself, but doing things with others is beyond valuable and sometimes necessary to create the results you want.
This year I partnered Virginia Credit Union League and worked with Mary Amyx, Vice President of Events and Education, to speak at multiple events, including the South East Regional Management School this past June, the Southeast Directors Volunteers Conference this past July, and the VA Credit Union League’s EMERGE Conference. The EMERGE Conference was a wonderful example of team work and an inspiring and empowering event with over 80 emerging leaders from credit unions across Virginia!

In our time together we discussed developing leadership skills within a team, the importance of effective communication in a team setting, and team-building skills. We had an amazing time during the digital teambuilding experience, which was a lot of fun breaking up into teams and applying the lessons learned. It was inspiring to see everyone come together to create unity and realize, regardless of what credit union each person represented, they are all part of something greater.
