Every event I speak at has something unique about it that makes it memorable. I always have takeaways of magical moments and lessons learned to reflect upon. Last year I had the wonderful and exciting opportunity to partner with Arcohe Union Elementary School District. This is a small community in northern California catering to students from pre-K up through eighth grade. This event stands out in a very special way because this was the first time I had done event for pre-kindergarten! They joy, fun, and excitement the students had sparked so much inspiration in me.
During our time together, we talked about what confidence is and how to build it, the importance of being kind to one another, and how by supporting and helping one another they can achieve more success. It was great to see so much liveliness and excitement in all of the students and how engaged they were! The highlight for me was during lunchtime where I had a chance to hang out with and get to know them more. When the afternoon programs ended, I was able to invest even more time and connect with the students further, talking with them, signing autographs, and taking pictures. We had such a fun and wonderful time together, and this even truly touched my heart.
This experience was a good reminder that play, fun, and excitement can increase motivation when working towards your goals, when working on a team or collaborating with colleagues. When you face challenges or come upon obstacles, when things seem difficult and like you are not making progress toward your goals, take a step back, do something fun, gain some perspective, and keep going!

It is easy for things to become monotonous and for our minds to go on autopilot when there is so much to do, to focus on, to make happen, or when there is pressure or a lot on our plates. It is easy to forget about the purpose and motivation that drives us to achieve our goals and strive toward success. When we can remember the why, the purpose, and find ways to make the journey exciting and enjoyable, we are more likely to succeed.
What are some ways you can make your work more playful and exciting? How can you bring more joy and wonder into whatever goal you have set in front of you?
